Box Clasp - Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Box Clasp?

A box clasp is a jewelry fastener made of a flat housing (the “box”) and a springy insert tab that slides inside and clicks into place. You attach the housing to one side of your piece and the insert to the other, creating a closure that locks securely until you release it.

How To Open a Box Clasp?

You can open a box clasp by gently pressing or squeezing the lever or tab on the side of the clasp while pulling the insert out of the housing. This releases the inner tongue from its catch so you can separate the two ends of your bracelet or necklace.

How To Fix a Box Clasp?

You can often fix a box clasp by slightly adjusting the inner tongue or tab so it fits more tightly in the housing. Using small jewelry pliers, you carefully bend the tongue so it catches again, and if the clasp is badly worn or damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new box clasp from our collection for long-term reliability.
